Why choose Braces & Faces for Dental Implants?
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an aesthetically pleasing and sturdy solution for replacing your missing teeth. The implant itself is a small titanium screw placed into the jawbone. When the screw fuses to the bone, it is extremely secure, providing a reliable, long-term smile solution.
To restore your smile, we fit an abutment and custom dental crown on top of your implant. The crown and implant will work together to function and feel like your natural teeth.
What problems can Dental Implants address?
Dental implants are used to replace one or more missing teeth in your mouth. These could be currently missing teeth, or ones that are damaged and need extraction. Implants don’t rely on nearby teeth for support, so we have more flexibility with implants than with dental bridges.
Implants are a good alternative to dentures and partials as they won’t cause bone deterioration common in denture wearers. You also won’t have work worry about your implants falling out when you speak or eat, since they are permanently attached to your jawbone.
The benefits of getting Dental Implants
Dental implants are a fabulous option for many of our patients because they:
- Prevent further bone loss - Missing teeth cause your jaw bone to deteriorate, but dental implants can promote growth of new healthy bone tissue.
- Don’t require food restrictions - Implants help you properly chew your food, and you won’t ever have to worry about them falling out when eating.
- Restore a beautiful, even smile - Many of our patients report a boost of self-confidence after their missing teeth are replaced.
- Can replace a full set of dentures - Because dental implants are independent structures, we can place them anywhere - and everywhere - in your smile.
- Prevent sagging, hollow cheeks - As dental implants stimulate new bone growth, they can stop mouth regression commonly seen in long-term denture wearers.
- Are safe, reliable and comfortable - We have many years of experience in restorative dentistry. Once your procedure is complete, you’ll think your natural teeth have returned!
The patient journey with Dental Implants
Every dental implant treatment takes multiple months and requires at least five appointments: your consultation, an implant appointment, a fitting appointment, and several follow-up appointments.
The first step of treatment is your dental implant consultation. During your consultation, we will take detailed x-rays and scans of your teeth and jaws to determine if dental implants are right for you. We will also match your tooth colour so we can create implants that look natural.
During your consultation, we will explain all the treatment procedures and options so you can feel confident moving forward with your dental implants.
If you decide to start treatment, we will schedule an appointment for your implant to be placed. This requires a minor, outpatient surgery to place an implant screw in your jawbone. We will numb the area with local anaesthetic so you won’t need to feel a thing.
If you still have a remaining tooth that needs replacing, we can remove it during the same appointment as the implant insertion. The procedure itself should take one to two hours. As this is a surgery, you may experience some swelling and soreness as your mouth heals.
You may need to eat soft foods for a few days, but you should brush and floss your teeth as usual. Over time, your jaw bone will fuse with the screw to create a solid foundation for your dental implant. This process generally takes between six to twelve weeks.
After your gums heal and your implant stabilises, we will schedule another appointment to fit your permanent crown.
First, we will place an abutment on top of the implant and tigehen it firmly in place. This is how we connect the implant to the crown.
Next, we will screw your crown on top of the abutment and glue it in place with sturdy orthodontic cement.
Once your crowns have been placed, you will need to attend regular check-up appointments to maintain your new tooth and ensure the procedure went smoothly and your implant is functioning flawlessly.
Dental implants have a 95% success rate, so while we’re covering our bases, your procedure should go off without a hitch!
